Five tips for furnishing children's room

If you have a task to furnish your child's/children's room, there is one basic fact you should remember - ideal children’s room is where the child feels comfortable, can play, study and rest without any trouble. The room should be a cozy place, where kids can feel as themselves.

Here are our 5 tips that can help you around when it’s time to freshen up the children’s room.

1. Furniture that is meant for children

When choosing the furniture for children's room, make sure that the rooms doesn't have anything that the child actually doesn’t need, but at the same time fits everything that is really needed. There should be enough space to move around and play.

Besides a bed, the room has to have also a desk that is in correct size and fits everything necessary. Choose also a good chair that supports the back and good posture.

Don't forget to consider your child's height. If you have younger kids, avoid shelves that reach the ceiling, or do not place everyday items above their height.

Children grow fast (sometimes too fast) and the same way their tastes and preferences change. That’s why it is reasonable to choose timeless pieces for bigger furniture that will grow with your child and withstand time. That will guarantee that children are comfortable in their rooms in years to come and there’s no need to change the furniture too often.

A low chest of drawers is a good alternative or addition to shelves that can be turned into a seat by adding pillows on it.

When furnishing a room, it is important to take into consideration that the rooms should be easy for a child to keep in order. Boxes and baskets for smaller things are in great help for keeping the room organized (or get it organized quickly).

3. Right lighting

There should be a lamp that adds light to as big area as possible, and in addition a proper desk lamp on kid's desk that gives out plenty of light - the desk shouldn’t be too dark or too bright. Make sure that the light coming from the lamp won't glare in child’s eye. That’s why it’s best to choose an adjustible desk lamp that can be used as a child needs it.

5. Play area outside children’s room

However well the children’s room is decorated, play areas will appear in other rooms as well. That’s why it’s smart to allocate an extra shelf in the living room, kitchen or terrace for games. Then the child doesn’t need to go into his /her own room when play time comes along and can do it with other family members.
